A Little Information About St. Armands Key
St. Armands Key
St. Armands Key is located close to Longboat Key, Lido Key, and downtown Sarasota. This is where the popular St. Armands Circle is located. If you’re looking for something to do in or around St. Armands Key, you will have plenty to choose from here.
St. Armands Key is named after Charles St. Amand, who purchased property on the island in 1893. His name was improperly spelled on the land deed as St. Armand and was never corrected, so the island is still known as St. Armands Key today.
The idea for the Circle, as the locals call it, was envisioned by John Ringling, the circus magnate. Back in 1917 he purchased the property that has become known as St. Armands Key. He wanted a shopping area in the form of a circle along with residential homes.
The Circle houses more than 140 shops, boutiques, restaurants, and galleries. There are enough things to look at here that you won’t possibly be able to see them all in one day. There are also often special events going on at the Circle, such as arts and crafts fairs, car shows, Ladies Nights, trunk shows, holiday events, and so much more.
The best way to see everything St. Armands Key has to offer is to start out early in the day and hit the shops and boutiques. Check out some of the galleries and grab a snack or a light meal at one of the cafes.
Continue your exploration of the Circle into the afternoon and as evening hits, sit down for a nice leisurely meal at one of the many restaurants. After dinner as it starts to get dark, head down to the beach to watch the sunset. End your perfect day with a drink at one of the pubs in the Circle.
Lido Key and Lido Beach are a short distance to the south of St. Armands Key. Sarasota is to the east and Longboat Key is to the north. You’re never far from anything interesting or fun to do, especially with the major attraction of the area right there on St. Armands Key.
The airport isn’t far away either. Sarasota-Bradenton Airport is just a short 6-mile drive away, so if you’re traveling to or from St. Armands Key, you won’t have far to go. There are also several hospitals and medical facilities nearby including St. Armands Urgent Care Center and Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
If you’ve been around St. Armands Key long enough to see all the Circle has to offer, head over to downtown Sarasota, Lido Key, or Longboat Key and see everything those locations have to offer. There are more shopping and dining options in downtown Sarasota, along with the theater where you can catch the latest play or check out one of the several art galleries in the area. It’s no wonder so many people want to live here. Besides the amazing views and the always perfect weather, there’s always something to keep you entertained.
